After recently seeing the movie Food, Inc., I started researching organic products and brands in order to find transparent companies that are not hiding anything from the consumer. Out of my research, I started a game called "Duped or Not." I post 4 products that I bought at the health food store and ask readers to identify which company duped me into believing they were a small, organic brand when they are really a GIANT agribusiness who bullies farmers & makes shady deals with other agribusinesses.
For fun, I go to the health food store with my laptop and look up brands of food to see who owns them. While I'm shopping, my attitude changes from simple curiosity to full on irritation that Heinz or General Mills has 8 times the amount of organic shelf space than any other product. I might mention to one of the employees that I would love to see more of this product and less of that other product. It feels good to educate myself and know that I am supporting companies that are doing the right thing. If you have any questions, I would be glad to help you look up product information to unmask the enemy.
